NAPLAN results

NHS’s results show progression well above national average

The following 2016 data provides average scores from the school at years 7 and 9 level and are compared to Australian averages. NHS’s results show progression well above national averages and comparable to, or better than, similar schools. The results are a wonderful endorsement of our students and their teachers.

What do these NAPLAN results mean?

As parents would know, the educational value of the NAPLAN tests has been publicly discussed on many occasions. However, like VCE results they serve some value to schools by providing an overall snapshot of how the student body  is progressing.  Our snapshot tells us that  Northcote’ s Year 7 and Year 9 groups over the last four years achieve (in all the NAPLAN test areas of Numeracy, Reading, Writing, Grammar and Punctuation);Well above the Australian national average (and Well above the Victorian State average) or At consistently the same level as comparison point (demographically similar) schools. Our task is to be performing consistently better than the expected level of similar schools.

Our NHS librarians are particularly pleased with results in Reading that show, amongst other things:

  • The median-ranked (middle) NHS boy‘s Reading score placed him in the top 25% of all boys for reading.
  • The margin by which NHS exceeds the state and national averages in Reading continues to widen over the five-year trend data.

Great results were also recorded in Numeracy and other test areas, demonstrating a healthy and sustained performance well in excess of the state and national averages
