Teaching and Learning
In Years 7 to 10 we teach the Australian Curriculum Framework AusVELS (Victorian Essential Learning Standards). Teachers work collectively to devise study programs that meet the national curriculum standards and are unique to our particular setting. In Years 9 and 10 students choose from a range of different courses enabling them to further customise their learning experience, to challenge and extend themselves or to embed skills in particular learning areas. The Year 9 and 10 program is known as The Northcote Model: further information can be found here.
In Years 11 and 12 students study the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) and we offer a broad range of subjects that students can select from. From 2017 we have also offered the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) program, which has been undertaken by a small group of students. It is common for students who have demonstrated good learning behaviours to advance by undertaking a VCE unit in Year 10. Students can also elect, as part of their program, to study a Vocational Education and Training (VET) subject.
